Release 91

March 14, 2025 (Review of Week 11)

We’re still swatting bugs (omg the modals, y’all)m, but oh-so-close to release the UI update! I think it’s going to be a nice shot in the arm for our ability to get out in social media again – we don’t want people to think that we’re “quiet!”

Here are some things that Marc and I have spitballed. Pls feel free to toss more ideas in the ring (to mix metaphors):

  • Linkedin post announcing new UI
  • Posting some of the new Glitter tutorials on LinkedIn
  • Recording some super short promos
  • A demo event (sort of like the friends and family one we did in 2023)

Metrics

  • Unique Buildings: 6,060 (February, +64 MoM)
  • Annual Run Rate: $1.28M
  • Monthly net burn (accrual basis): $92,959 (3-month avg through February)
  • Year-to-Last Month net burn (cash basis): $173,252.90
  • 2025 Transaction fees to date: $3,868 (invoiced)
  • Outstanding invoices as of today: $409,573 (+153,868 WoW or +60.178% WoW)

Last Week’s Highlights

  • Progress with AI–we have a plan to integrate the initial building guesser work that Izzy started into Momentum, and we kicked off work to scrape building data from documents, which is one step in the direction of making it easier for users to transition from their curernt spreadsheet and pdf world into Momentum. (JB)
  • Kept Related happy as a customer – though this required taking some Momentum outputs and putting in a spreadsheet to meet their needs for over time planning. Learnings from this are relevant to “over time” product roadmap features (MZ)
  • Provdided input to UHAB on site data they should collect across 200 buildings over the next 6 onths. While data will initially be dumped in a structured spreadsheet, this data will be invaluable as an input to more detailed “over time” decarb product features when available (MZ)

Any missing highlights? Please share in Slack comments.

Crow’s Nest

Looking out for icebergs: What are the risks on the horizon that we’re watching for and navigating around?

Jason’s List

Mostly carryover or tweaks to last week’s:

  • RFP~s~–Given everything going on at the federal level with GGRF, at this point I’m down to only wondering about the NYC Accelerator RFP as a potential contract.
  • Who are going to be our users outside government programs? Service Providers? Can we make things more self service and have owners as well?
  • How can we continue to reduce the barriers to giving users useful information? I’m eager to try scraping data out of pdfs and other documents so we can make it easier to get non-public information.
  • Figuring out a sustainable sprint planning routine that allows us to reliably ship on time and to know what will be in the release–and move faster. Would love to get to the point where we can let customers know roughly when a near-term feature will be ready. We have a lot of additions to the scope builder planned for after the UI update, and I’m hoping we can get them out quickly.
  • Updating our project workflow. We have a better idea of who will be using this now, which is a great start.

François’ List

  • We’re still waiting for an official signature on the NYSERDA data RFP. This really is taking time. I won’t jinx it and say (once again) that it should happen this week. When we have the contract signed, there will be a ton of discovery work, then big investments in state-wide data. We have a contractor lined up to help us with some of the data ingestion.

Carryover:

  • Keeping momentum on AI why tackling large new challenges (development, R/W databases) - Same as last week

Erika’s List

Some carryover from last week and the focus going into Q2 (which is right around the corner):

  • Looking at Salesforce and what it would mean for us to switch from hubspot. It had been in the background, but I think it’s something to prioritize - if we want to make the switch before our renewal in June, we would need time to review pricing, the agreement, migrating our information and getting folks trained up. We have about 3 months and it will go by quickly!
  • I’m exploring how we can make health care more affordable for us as the employer and for employees. Our plans should be able to scale in a cost-efficient manner without sacrificing coverage or benefits. This would also be tied to an exploration of another PEO (Professional Employer Organization, which is a third-party company that provides HR services to businesses).
  • Not losing sight of our onboarding process either - a next round of updates is coming up and then we’ll just have to refine with actual new hires. I will be pulling in specific team members for their feedback on some sections- without input, I hesitate to leave in some of the updates because it contributes to a lack of clarity that we want to avoid.

Marc’s List (carryover)

  • Macro economic impacts on our business and busineses in general from shit that is going down
  • We need more and better feedback from users and potential users
  • The Con Ed (2026) RFP is not going to be a copy and paste of the last 3 years – how do we best position ourselves?

Bomee’s List

  • Cash. We’re expecting to be paid all of Q1’s Willdan payments in April.
  • We worked really hard on this UI refresh and I hope (and expect!) it will go well! I think we should plan to do a round of customer feedback somehow.
  • NYCA – the RFP is finally due next week. It would be great to win that thing!!
  • My pile of things I’ve been ignoring is probably getting ripe. I’ll need to give it some love soon.
  • And well, the background hum of uncertainty – more than ever before in my work experience – is pretty dang loud right now. I’m not acutely worried at the moment, but we’re a dinky part of the larger economy, so it’s always out there.

On Deck for This Week
