6k and counting
February 21, 2025 (Review of Week
8)
Hi y’all – I’m pretty sure that we’ve crossed or are about to cross the 6,000 buildings mark! I think that’s worth celebrating!
We have a lot of irons in the fire still (or Schroedinger’s RFPs, as François calls them),
and while we don’t yet know how all of them will go, it seems very likely that we will be
in contract on NYSERDAta very shortly. Congrats to Erika and Jason on keeping on that process!
I’m really looking forward to the database and data pipeline improvements that will unlock,
and being able to work closely with NYSERDA directly will be a great opportunity
both to broaden the impact and reach of our work, as well as to learn a lot about what
is going on the the State! Lots to look forward to there!
Also wanted to shout-out Jason and Marc’s prep work on the next iteration of the ConEd program. These are as important as the actual RFP response, perhaps more!
We have a point of view: that what’s needed in the market is supporting owners from start to finish. We share this POV with KC3, who have boots on the ground – which means we’re
not just thinking thoughts divorced from the market. I’m optimistic that this is the year
these major programs (NYC Accelerator, NYSERDA, ConEd) all get on our bandwagon.
That said, we are still a software company and need to sell to users.
I’ve been very happily doing my bit on the UI, which is what I’m going back to right now!
Have a good week! – Bomee

Last Week’s Highlights
- Rel 89.4 fixed a few bugs and unblocked CPC CFHF! (JB)
- I think we are very close to a signed 2025 SOW with Willdan! Just a few more details to finalize, but I expect we’ll have this done by month’s end. (JB)
- Learned some cool stuff about work others are doing on training AI models on building image recognition (MZ)
- Kick off pilot project with KC3 and the Urban Homesteading Assitance Board that will involve developing decarbonization plans across 200 buildings with Momentum (MZ).
- Kicked off a Con Edison demonstration project with one of our customer (L&M Development partners) on a pilot project that will result in significant new subscription revenue and opportunity to further build out scope builder features (MZ)
- UI refresh is well on its way. It didn’t turn out to be very mini, but it’s still gonna be a fairly short (weeks not months) project with a big impact
Any missing highlights? Please share in Slack comments.
Crow’s Nest
Looking out for icebergs: What are the risks on the horizon that we’re watching for and navigating around?
Jason’s List
A lot of carryover:
- Still waiting on RFP news…
- Will Service Providers see value using Momentum? And can we make them happy (or at least not actively antagonistic) while trying to displace a lot of what they do today?
- How can we continue to reduce the barriers to giving owners useful information? I’m eager to try scraping data out of pdfs and other documents so we can make it easier to get non-public information.
- Figuring out a sustainable sprint planning routine that allows us to reliably ship on time and to know what will be in the release–and move faster.
- Updating our project workflow. We have a better idea of who will be using this now, which is a great start.
Marc’s List
same from last week:
- We need more and better feedback from users and potential users
- The Con Ed (2026) RFP is not going to be a copy and paste of the last 3 years – how do we best position ourselves?
Erika’s List
same from last week:
- I had deprioritized getting all the HR documentation on policies and practices into the handbook (it’s all written out and complete) but it needs to be visible and shared out.
- In a similar HR/people vein, we want to make sure we are set to scale and bring on any new people once we’re ready to hire. This means getting feedback on that documentation (e.g. worldwide work policy, onboarding process) and sharing what we’ve also been looking at (onboarding process and diversity, hiring and compliance in a shifting landscape). This is a current area of focus.
François’ List
Same as last week:
- Schrödinger’s RFPs
- Keeping momentum on AI why tackling large new challenges
Bomee’s List
- Willdan payment is getting super backed up. Fingers crossed that we can sign the 2025 extension asap.
- Documenting front end. It’s a lot of complicated stuff going on in here and it’s very easy to forget what is where, create duplicated stuff unintentionally, etc.
- Inevitable growth issues: timing of getting more front-end help, tooling, etc. Lots to think about
Carry overs:
- NYC Accelerator, due March 7. Largely in Willdan’s hands now!
- Eye on cash management
- ConEd rebid coming up - needs prep work from me and Marc
- Prod motion and velocity - I feel like we’re making progress there, but still a work in progress
