Greenhouse Gas Fund Opportunity

April 5, 2024 (Review of Week 14)

First, it’s April! So a note on Autism Acceptance Month: Thanks for doing your part to build an inclusive company! And thank you personally for making me feel accepted :)

Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund grantees have been announced! We don’t know yet how much of the $20B will ultimately end up with multifamily, but there’s going to be great urgency to get the money out into the hearts, if not hands, of voters. The great news is that “our people,” the multifamily housers, are well-represented:

  • Climate United Fund ($6.97 billion award) includes CPC as the multifamily lead. We know and love CPC, and we think the feeling’s mutual!

  • Coalition for Green Capital ($5 billion award) is something of a wildcard, since they are not really part of the community development industry. But presumably, they will deploy their funding via local green banks–like NYCEEC, some of which deploy to housing.

  • Power Forward Communities ($2 billion award) is mostly multifamily housers: Enterprise Community Partners, LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation) and Habitat for Humanity are 3 of the 5 members.

  • Opportunity Finance Network - OFN ($2.29 billion award) is an association of CDFIs. There are many small multifamily lenders (like Capital for Change in Connecticut, where I serve on the commercial lending credit committee) that are depending on OFN to help them access and deploy GGRF.

  • Justice Climate Fund ($940 million award) includes IMT and a bunch of other non-profit buildings-sector organizations.

Revenue

  • Current subscription ACV: $425.3k

  • 2024 ARR: $152k

  • Outstanding invoices as of today: $367k

Last Week’s Highlights

  • Congrats to Maksym on completing his 90-day 360 ~today~ Friday!

  • Congratulations to the team on Release 57!

  • Henry’s 4/4 at 4 tea party. Sorry I didn’t make it out; hope y’all had fun!

  • UI designer search: Houston, we have two designers selected and two back-ups. Yay!

  • Decarb PM search: We’ve decided we need to hire 2 PMs, in light of the tsunami that is GGRF. Marc will be doing 2nd interviews for 8 candidates who have emerged from the 21 first interviews.

  • IDIQ program: We have draft contracts from Nixon Peabody (at eye-watering Amlaw 100-level cost)! and we’re in discussion with a freelance project manager to help us stay on track

My Watchlist

  • Dev pipeline: This is sort of like trying to get the order of ingredients right to bake the cookies (beat eggs before you add in the flour, etc)! Jeff bringing QA bar up is great, adding developer capacity is great, getting design resources, also great, etc.! So many cookies to bake, tho!

  • Renewals: Unchanged: we don’t yet have a system for making sure these get timely follow-up…the next one comes up in May, but it’s one that we may let churn because it’s so hard to collect from RY.

  • Metrics: Good start on the Jupyter notebook! Still gotta kick all the way to the wall!

  • Big product picture: Marc, François, and I are getting on the same page. Our ambitions are only growing!

  • Don’t be a series of small businesses: Marc and I are shopping for some founder coaching to make sure we’re staying on a venture-scale path.

On Deck for This Week

  • As a follow-up to last week’s Q2 meeting, please take a few minutes this week to update our quarterly goals tracker! Pls take a look also at Q1 things that need a status update or need to roll over to Q2, in addition to filling in Q2.

  • Consultants: getting into contract with signed work scopes for Dylan, Prisca, and Melissa.

  • Trademarking Cadence OneFive, Cadence OneFive° and Momentum

  • Horizontal practices meeting! I think it would be great to get an update on what Erika Parkins has learned from participating in EPIC, especially in light of our incoming interns and hiring! If you’re willing, Erika?

And here’s what’s on my radar screen - what am I forgetting?
