Final lap of Q1!

March 1, 2024 (Review of Week 9)

OMG it’s March.

They have the ability to scale customers across key metrics (accounts, DUs, and square footage) as well as within wallet (audit, planning, bid sourcing/leveling, execution).

This Week’s Highlights

  1. Related Companies contract has been finalized and is out for signature, for 45 properties basically evenly split between rentals and condos, with combined ACV of $198k. This has been a year-long process to get here – I want to say about half the calendar time has been getting bounced behind bigger fish in their legal review queue, which think can’t be avoided when it’s a big corporate developer. Kudos to Marc! 🎉

  2. Soft commit on FSE pilot of 10 buildings! FSE is the largest multifamily property manager in NYC and this initial foray is key to Marc’s GTM strategy for serving all these one-off coops and condos that we would never have the bandwidth to support.

  3. Staffing! Welcome Luke Floden, congrats Jeremy Parker on signing SOW #2, and kudos to François Huet on strong launch to tech recruiting! We also got the posting up for Decarbonization Project Manger with a much more general set of requirements than the prior Mech-e/Building Science postings. Pls help us promote via socials!

  4. FinOps: Small, but mighty, y’all! - you may not naturally share my excitement about this, but I invite you to try: we are about to take a step up in ease of operations. Thanks to Erika Parkins’s efforts, we have a new bookkeeper starting mid March, the annual financial review underway, taxes being taken care of by a new tax firm, and our budget/financials set up on Telemetry, which automatically keeps it up to date against actuals. I’m pretty proud of how buttoned-up our finops has been, given where we are as a company, and these changes will make it easier for us to do more with less heartache, hopefully.

  5. Our investors are happy. Marc, Erika, and I met with Great Wave and Catalyst over the past two weeks for our monthly check-ins. Both meetings were very warm and they have been good about following up on help offered, including intros. I also did a short presentation to the SWA board (who has the biggest chunk of our current cap table) - there seemed to be a fair amount of interest and general well-wishes.

My Watchlist

  • Revenue: always important to keep an eye on it until the cash is in hand! Willdan doesn’t usually need follow-up, but we have two months of Aeroseal outstanding now, and of course Related is not done until the signatures are done and invoices paid.

  • Dev pipeline: As we’re now in March, feels like we ought to take a look at what is rolling over from Feb in the National Requirements? Jason Block François Huet

  • Staffing: Turn money into person-hours at the right speed…still working on whether we have the right metrics to gauge. Also, Decarb PM posting needs to be circulated to the various job boards and Slack channels. I’m the process blocker on this one.

  • Personally, Wireframes: Now that we have feedback from Ellis on the scope page, it’s time to run some redesign ideas by him. Jason’s busy doing Mech-e stuff, so I’m taking a whack at it, but a) not a designer; b) don’t have right tools for wireframe (figma is too fiddly and takes too long). After a couple hours, I’m sort of stumped and need a shake-up. And I need to double down on getting design resources.

On Deck for Next Week

  • Events: I’m speaking at a real estate event at NYU and then at a meeting of Professional Women in Construction, both on Wed.

  • Bookkeeping / budget: Expecting 2023 corrections to be made this week so we can close out 2023, as well as Jan and Feb. I’m looking to run some budget scenarios to be discussed on Thursday’s perm staff meeting, so having Jan/Feb up to date will be helpful.

  • Maksym’s 60-day 360. We’re still working out the kinks, both in our review process for new hires and for perm staff performance feedback, so each one of these that we do, we’re learning and tweaking. Thanks François Huet for taking on a lot of that legwork.

  • Wireframes. I owe Jason and Ellis some proposals for revised building/scopes page.

And here’s what else on my radar screen - what am I forgetting?
