Half-way Week

June 28, 2024 (Review of Week 26)

Did you miss me? I forgot last Friday’s memo–I was crispy! Sorry about that! On that topic, I hope everyone has their summer break plans lined up!

I have been sliding more and more into fund raise mode. Folks who were here during pre-Seed know that come Sept or Jan (whichever ends up being the actual start of the raise), I will functionally disappear for a couple of months. So, to prepare for that, I’m going to try to do at least one round of 1:1s with all of you. If you are not yet on my summer calendar (I think I got everyone?), please put yourself on!

I am also going to be doing my 360 early fall. I meant to do this earlier, but just seemed like other things were more pressing. I consider would like input from all of you, but to keep the process sane for me, I’m going to invite the folks who work directly with me day-to-day to the 360 meeting. The recording will be available for everyone, and all of you will get the feedback survey. I would really appreciate it if you would please provide frank feedback.

Last but not least, I wrote an addendum to the 6/14 memo (2024-06-16) for the product team that I would like everyone to read. Please do leave feedback, by which I mean whatever thoughts are crossing your mind as you read it.

Revenue

  • Unique Buildings (6/1): 5130

  • Annual Run Rate: $1.44MM ←- this is current monthly subscription revenue x 12

  • Monthly net burn: $45k ←- this is a 3-month rolling average

  • 2024 Transaction fees to date: $1,337.34

  • Outstanding invoices as of today: $164k

This Week’s Highlights

  • Congrats on Release 67 and especially to Naina for the elevator measure! The ability to be responsive to Marc’s need for these measures is a great sign of movement in the right direction!

  • Our first eNPS results are in! Please take a look at the comments submitted to the question “what would cause you to give a higher score?” If we’re going by % of responses, we are at a 90; if I count as neutral the people who did NOT respond, we are at 56.

  • NYSERDA RFP 5701 is submitted: Melissa did a fantastic job of getting everything ship shape 🎉 and also thanks to folks who responded to the various asks related to this. I think, on the whole, it would be good to win this RFP–it would establish us as being the purveyor State-wide to the NYSERDA Hubs, which would bring us data! It skirts close to being a side quest, so if we do get awarded, we’ll need to be careful about that.

  • ATL in BKB! Late addition: I just watched Robin’s demo of his first attempt to add a new city to BKB. It’s great to see progress on the task of adding non-NY data, and really underscores the value of sharing weekly progress videos also! Congrats, Robin!

Did I miss any highlights?

My Watchlist

  • Cash. We’ve made some decisions that will increase burn, so we’ll need to start keeping a very close eye on burn, including making sure that the tools we’re using are giving us a reliable estimate of future cash on hand.

  • Meeting CPC’s needs. Can’t overstate how important it is to have a happy CPC – sounds like we are making good progress! Robin Neri and I are on duty while Jason is on vacation :)

  • Partnerships: Accelerator, GGRF. Many, many conversations. This week, with Relay Network and Enterprise.

  • Onboarding: Looking forward to getting more feedback, both from ML+KJ and from SOC2 process. Seems like we are starting to get tickets?

  • Dev pipeline: I’m looking to the prod team to keep on improving communication and process! Getting closer to GP!

  • Metrics: I think we’ve stalled a bit, but that’s OK for right now.

  • Don’t be a series of small businesses: ~Marc and I are shopping for some founder coaching to make sure we’re staying on a venture-scale path~. We put this on the back burner. We don’t have time to engage right now.

On Deck for Next Week

  • Happy 4th of July!

  • Jason and François are OVD next week. Please do your best to keep on eye on things that they would normally take care of for you!

  • Investor meetings for me all week, plus follow-ups; wrapping up first round of deck edits.

  • Willdan in-person relationship meeting (Marc and Isha)

And here’s what’s on my radar screen - what am I forgetting?

François Huet Another highlight: after a smooth soft launch, the calc service is now powering 100% of production traffic - and unlocked new feature flagged measures: elevators, 2 oil conversions measures, and 2 additional measures to capture fees and miscellaneous costs. This required a big push from the team!Lowlight: production has been unstable this week, with 2 unrelated events causing downtime or browning throughout the week. We are pretty sure we’ve addressed both root causes - but this was disruptive to our users, and effort intensive for the team. Thanks to all who pitched in for the fix, and in particular Jeremy and Reuben!
