README for Yousef Abukwaik
Hi Everyone! My name is Yousef Abukwaik (He/Him).
At Cadence OneFive, my role is…
I am helping the team develop models for heat pumps (until further notice) for Momentum to make recommendations on a national level. I will be joining the Building Science Team as an intern.
Who am I?
Away from work
I am based in New York City, but originally from Jersey. I consider myself an explorer, which is driven by my love to share stories (I love to listen to others just as much as I like to share). I say that I am a humanities major who chose to go down the engineering path, so I love talking about politics, geography, economics, and anything international (potentially why I was involved in Model UN for many years).
Fun little story: When I was in middle school I was a state finalist for the Geo(graphy)Bee. I was given my first ever map in the second grade and have been in love with them ever since. While I may not have been to all the continents in reality, I like to call myself a world traveler 🤓.
At work
As I alluded to previously, I am currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering program. My focus is on structural and construction engineering as my aspirations are to design built environments that optimize human health. My experiences whether with public/private entities or on campus labs have strengthened my research and data analysis skills. Mere coincidence or intentional I have worked with maps to bring many of the insights to life.
Goals
Learning goals
Cadence jumped out to me as a student involved in research relating to infrastructure and human health because it seems like a direct application of these topics. I am looking for the next opportunity to assist in the movement of decarbonization. I hope to learn more about how models for landlords can be developed through a blend of calculations and value engineering. Another learning prospect that excites me is increasing the scope of the software (developing more complicated and generalized models) starting from tinkering out the ideation phase to a scalable project.
Career goals
I have many aspirations and potential routes that I would like to go down in my career. While I am not certain of the specifications, I am positive that it must be centered around improving the built environment and quality of life. I envision myself being part of initiatives that blend research, data analysis, and civil engineering to develop products for everyday use. In essence, I want to bring value to people’s lives and how that is achieved is open to interpretation.
Ways of working together
I am a team player through and through. With my meetings I try to ensure everyone’s perspectives are listened to and considered before moving forward to the next actionable item.
You can lean on me to…
Keep track of all parts of the project and ensure we are hitting all milestones. You can also lean on me to research and dive deeper in some of the technicalities of local or any prevalent topic.
How to support me as we work together
What are your growing edges? Are there areas you’ve noticed where you could use extra support? Again, if you find it hard to come up with examples here, you could ask a former teammate or supervisor.
Feedback preferences
I appreciate feedback of any kind and always open to listen to my teammate. Please feel free to send me a private message (if on a call) or shoot me a slack notification at any time. I often will ask for feedback (if not already given) so that we can push forward and work together more effectively.
Schedule and availability
I am based in New York City so I am in the Eastern Time Zone. Feel free to message me at any time in the week, however I will be more readily available Monday through Wednesday and to a lesser extent on Friday. Tuesdays are the best days for meetings/calls should we need to schedule one.
