MWBE Certification
Minority or Woman-owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) certification is a local or State-level certification that allows you to benefit from procurement set-asides or subsidies and grants aimed at supporting minority or women-owned small businesses.
It is in Cadence OneFive’s interest to get MBE certification because we have so much interaction with public and regulated (e.g. utility) customers that it’s to our benefit (e.g., Willdan and CPC both have MBE subcontractor reporting requirements).
Specific programs have their own requirements, but in general certification requires 51% minority or women’s ownership. We qualify as an MBE because the founders (Asian-American and Hispanic) jointly own more than 51%, but not as an MWBE because Bomee’s share alone is less than 51%.
